"Shady Lies" written by Richard Thompson, British songwriter and fellow member of Fairport Convention, was recorded by Ian Matthews for his Elektra album, Valley Hi, released in August 1973. The steel guitar work is by Red Rhodes, one of the greatest steel guitar players of all time. Michael Nesmith produced the album and plays guitar along with Ian.
